A major highlight of the evening was President Rubiela’s announcement of a truly historic initiative: the placement of a Peace Pole beneath the sea at Tres Trapi, within the designated buoy area, scheduled for September 16, 2025. This extraordinary project will mark the first underwater Peace Pole in Rotary history, symbolizing a profound commitment to peace, unity, and environmental stewardship.
The significance of this milestone is already drawing international attention. Both Immediate Past District Governor Debby Roopchand and Immediate Past Rotary International President Stephanie Urchik have expressed interest in attending, making the occasion even more meaningful for Aruba and the Rotary community worldwide.
The meeting also featured an insightful presentation by Gunnar Bracelly of Petros Aquaculture Operations VBA, who offered a fascinating look into the future of sustainable offshore aquaculture. His presentation explored the development of a red snapper fish farm planned approximately 8 kilometers off Aruba’s southwest coast.
This pioneering initiative aims to strengthen food security, diversify the island’s tourism-driven economy, and provide locally farmed seafood for hotels, cruise ships, and export markets—all while reducing environmental impact. It’s a powerful example of how innovation and sustainability can work hand in hand to shape Aruba’s future.
With bold ideas both above and below the surface, the evening reflected Rotary’s ongoing commitment to service, innovation, and lasting impact.
